A new US air raid targeting a commander of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitary forces has instead killed at least six people critically as well as wounded three early on Saturday, according to news reports, a day after a drone attack by the United States killed top Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani.
The Iraqi army told Reuters that airstrikes targeting Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces, an umbrella grouping of Iran-backed Shi’ite militias - struck near Taji, north of Baghdad.
A police source told Reuters that many people were injured when the attack targeted a PMU vehicle though he could not say the number of casualties. The attack comes after Tehran threatened the United States with severe retaliation following the assassination of Soleimani.
