UAE to name in Guinness Book in New Year

124 detained in Turkey on suspicious of IS

Collected Police in Turkey have detained at least 124 people suspected of links to the so-called Islamic State in raids across the country on Monday, state news agency Anadolu reported. At least 33 foreign nationals were detained in the capital Ankara in a joint operation by anti-terrorism police and the national intelligence agency, according to the Anadolu Agency.  In Istanbul, police raided 31 houses, detaining 24 suspects, including four foreign nationals. Police conducted simultaneous, pre-dawn raids in the city of Batman, in south-east Turkey, where 22 suspects were detained. Raids were also conducted in the cities of Adana, Kayseri, Samsun and Bursa where 45 people, including six foreign nationals, were detained. Police were searching for some 17 other suspects, the report added. More news

Collapsed tunnel kills 4 in north China

Collected Four people have been confirmed dead and two others are still trapped as of Tuesday morning after a tunnel under construction collapsed in north China’s Shanxi Province, local authorities said Tuesday. The accident occurred at around 4:00 pm on Monday at a tunnel on a highway in the city of Jincheng, trapping six people who were working on the site, according to the city’s publicity authorities. One of them was rescued and sent to a nearby hospital but died later Monday, while rescuers retrieved the bodies of another three victims from the collapsed tunnel as of 7:50 am on Tuesday. An estimated 200 cubic meters of debris was blocking the tunnel. The search and rescue efforts are underway. More news

23 killed in rebel attacks in Congo

Collected At least 23 civilians have been killed in an attack by the rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. “There was an incursion in Apetina-Sana by the ADF last night,” Beni administrator Donat Kibwana told AFP, referring to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militia.  “The ADF hacked civilians to death in the settlement. The rebels also set fire to the victims' homes,” he said.  Police and local officials said on Monday that the overnight raid on Apetina-Sana in the restive eastern region of Beni was carried out by ADF rebels, who operate in both DRC and neighboring Uganda. 4 quakes jolt Jammu and Kashmir in 2hrs

Representational Photo Four medium intensity tremors with magnitudes ranging between 4.7 and 5.5 hit Jammu and Kashmir in a span of less than two hours on Monday night, the National Centre for Seismology said. The first quake with a magnitude of 4.7 hits at 10:42 pm, followed by one measuring 5.5 six minutes later. The two occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The third quake measuring 4.6 hits at 10:58 pm, followed by the fourth one at 11:20 pm with 5.4-magnitude. The third and fourth quakes occurred at the depth of 36 kilometers and 63 kilometers respectively. There were no immediate reports of casualty and damage to properties. Separately, a quake with a magnitude of 5 hit the Andaman and Nicobar islands at 10:29 pm on Monday. Jammu and Kashmir and Andaman and Nicobar islands witness high seismological activities. 5 killed in blast in Yemen military parade

Photo: Collected At least five people were killed and many others injured as a missile fired by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group struck a military parade in Yemen’s southern separatist-held town of al-Dhalea, Yemen’s Security Belt forces said on Sunday. No claim of responsibility was made and Houthi media did not immediately comment on the blast or accusation. - Report Reuters.  The Security Belt forces are part of a southern separatist front in south Yemen. At the same time, they are backed by the United Arab Emirates in a fight against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group. Witnesses told Reuters that a blast occurred near a guest platform during the parade and that many were injured or killed. They reported seeing bodies at the scene. At least five people died and eight were injured, according to local health authority figures quoted by the Security Belt group and in a statement from the local media office of the forces which control al-Dhalea. World’s oldest rhino dies

Photo: Collected The oldest rhino in the world has died in Tanzania aged 57.  Fausta, an eastern female black rhino, died of suspected natural death on Friday, said Dr Freddy Manongi, the Conservation Commissioner for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), in a statement.  Fausta was first sighted in the Ngorongoro crater in 1965 by a scientist from the University of Dar es Salaam, at the age between three and four years. She roamed the crater freely for more than 54 years, but health issues in her old age required her to spend her final few years receiving specialist care in a sanctuary. Fausta never had calves - something conservationists in Ngorongoro suggest may have contributed to her long life. By 2016, Fausta's eyesight was deteriorating and she was suffering from the lingering effects of hyena attacks. The French forward, who netted twice in the win over Newcastle on Thursday, now has 10 goals in all competitions this season. Texas sheriff: 2 dead, seven shot in music video ‘ambush’

The Harris County sheriff's office said Saturday morning that 20-year-old Gonzalo Gonzalez and 22-year-old Jonathan Jimenez died at the scene Friday night. The sheriff's office said the seven injured were taken to hospitals and ranged in age from 17 to 23. The sheriff's office said Saturday that they did not know a motive or have any suspects. US sees highest number of mass killings in 2019

File Photo The US suffered more mass killings in 2019 than any year on record, according to researchers.  A database compiled by the Associated Press (AP), USA Today and Northeastern University recorded 41 incidents and a total of 211 deaths. Mass killings are defined as four or more people being killed in the same incident, excluding the perpetrator. - Reports BBC. Among the deadliest in 2019 were the killings of 12 people in Virginia Beach in May and 22 in El Paso in August. Of the 41 cases in 2019, 33 involved firearms, researchers said. California had the highest number of mass killings per state, with eight. The database has been tracking mass killings in the US since 2006, but research going back to the 1970s did not reveal a year with more mass killings, AP reported. US plane crashed in Louisiana kills 5

Photo: Collected At least five people were killed and the other four were injured severely in a plane crashed just a short distance from the Walmart supermarket at the Lafayette town in Louisiana in the United States on Saturday. Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said the plane was heading to Atlanta from Louisiana on Sunday. Shortly after the flight, it hit a car. The car was burned to ashes. Five of the six passengers aboard the plane were killed, they said. But fortunately one survived. Two other people were also critically injured in the incident. Walmart was evacuated shortly after the accident. The plane crashed around 9 pm on Saturday night after flying from the airport. A post office nearby was also damaged in the crash. Louisiana Governor John Edwards expressed condolences to the family and friends of the victim in a tweet. More news

Russian military successfully launches 4 satellites

Photo: Daily Bangladesh The Russian Aerospace Forces on Friday successfully launched a Rokot carrier rocket with a retroreflector BLITS-M satellite and a group of Gonets-M communications satellites, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The launch was carried out at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia's northwestern Arkhangelsk region, it added. The Gonets satellite system, the operator of Russian satellite communication and relaying systems made by order of the state space corporation Roscosmos, said in a separate statement that three Gonets-M satellites were launched. Since its first launch in May 2000, Russian Aerospace Forces have conducted 31 launches of the Rokot rocket, putting into orbit some 70 spacecraft, the ministry said. ISIS claims execution of 11 Christians

The footage posted in an online Telegram news channel late on Thursday by ISIS-linked propaganda arm Amaq showed 11 blindfolded men being lined up at an unidentified outdoor location.  One man is shot before the other 10 are beheaded. A masked man in the almost one-minute video claimed the killings were in response to the death of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his spokesman.   Al-Baghdadi committed suicide in October to avoid capture during a raid by United States special forces on his hideout in the province of Idlib, northwestern Syria. UN condemns human rights abuses against Myanmar’s Rohingya

Photo: Collected The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has approved a resolution condemning human rights abuses against Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims and other minorities.  It also calls on Myanmar's government to stop the incitement of hatred against the Rohingya and other minorities in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan states.  The resolution was passed by a total of 134 countries in the 193-member world body, with nine votes against and 28 abstaining on Friday. General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding but they do reflect world opinion.  Thousands of Rohingya were killed and more than 700,000 fled to neighbouring Bangladesh during an army crackdown in the Buddhist-majority country in 2017. ‘iPhone users are 167 times more likely to get hacked’

UK-based phone case company Case24.com has discovered that iPhone owners are a whopping 167 times more at risk of being hacked than other mobile brands. They gathered the data by analyzing monthly Google search volumes to see how many British people are looking to find information on how to hack different apps or smartphone brands. Case24.com claims that a total of 10,040 searches for iPhones in Britain are notably higher than Samsung that came in second place with 700 searches. LG, Nokia, and Sony are at the top of the list of lowest interest. Apps that posed a lower risk of being hacked were Facebook, Amazon, and Netflix. More news
